![]() The news a few days ago that Kodak will be discontinuing their Kodachrome line of slide film prompted me to go back to my film archives to check the condition of my Kodachrome slides. the prices, especially compared to german ones, were very reasonable and all was handled for cash only. when you've made your order, the clerks vanished into a back room and returned - minutes later - with all the wonderful stuff (two minoltas, the innovative xd-11 and the leicaflex-like xe-5, different lenses and converters, a vivitar flash and some cartridges of kodak's and ilford's). ![]() behind the counters worked young men in black clothes, most of them with sidelocks and kippahs, obviously all orthodox jews. you got a number and had to wait til you were called. located on the upper floors of a shabby old building you had to walk up 4 stairs and ring at the door then you came to a room with several counters. however growing to a $ 300 millions sales company with some 700 employees in the late 80s, the store of irving and leah goldstein was then in 1978 still a rather small, strange and very special one: almost nothing did remind of a photo seller. ![]() Martha crossing, just coming from 47th st photo.
